As part of the E.D.E.N. Digital project we are hosting masterclasses on a range of filmmaking topics.

The masterclasses will cover topics such as storytelling through short films, creating a low budget film, cinematography, festival strategy and authentic storytelling.

All masterclasses are available for no cost and will be hosted via Zoom. The masterclasses are for ages 18+.

 
Jack Peter Mundy | An introduction to camerawork and cinematography | Thursday 15th April, 7-9pm via Zoom. 
 
Jack’s masterclass will explore the role of the camera operator and cinematographer and look at what it means to work in the UK independent film industry. We will explore best practice working, career paths and aspirations as well as the importance of building your range of diverse skills to ensure you are always the right person for the job. We will look at technical aspects of camera work, understanding shot structure, lighting and working with the constraints of a limited budget. We will also discuss life on a film set, documentary film making and the why attention to detail is so important. Finally we will be looking at how to make a good first and lasting impression.

Rico Johnson-Sinclair Who Are You? | Thursday 29th April, 7-9pm via Zoom. 
 
In this interactive session with Rico Johnson-Sinclair Director of CineQ and Producer of the BFI NETWORK backed film Sweet Mother, Rico will guide you through a range of exercises which will help you reframe what you think filmmaking is, and encompass what filmmaking should be.
 
During the session, you’ll learn more about authentic storytelling and be involved in a conversation of what changes need to happen in the film industry to affect systemic change.
 
Then, together we’ll engage exercises to establish self-care and help you reflect on what will make you an exceptional filmmaker, before you begin to build your brand and learn useful networking techniques, receiving feedback from Rico himself.

Abena Taylor-Smith | Storytelling through Short Films | Thursday 13th May, 7-9pm via Zoom. 
 
This masterclass will discuss the mystical process of settling on an idea, working with that idea in order for it to become a story; the tools used in pre-production such as loglines, outlines, synopses, moodboards and sizzle reels and how they can be helpful. On set demeanour, the importance of self-care; and navigating the honesty vs exposure dilemma of being a queer artist making queer work.
